Degree focus Students learn the full spectrum of public health, with a focus on a specific area. Fieldwork generates hands-on learning in the practice of public health, at sites in Chicago and around the globe. The programs include building research skills. The main focus of these programs is enhancing research skills and knowledge, put into practice toward a thesis investigating public health issues in a particular area. Designed for those already working in healthcare or related fields who want to advance their skills to become executives and leaders, and new graduates who want to enter the healthcare field as managers. Develops clinicians and executive administrators to integrate their experience with a thorough understanding of the complex factors affecting the delivery and sustainability of health services organizations.
Learning Experiences The applied practice experience (or fieldwork) pairs students with public health organizations worldwide to gain practical skills strengthening health outcomes. The MS thesis places students on a research team, as they conduct research relevant to their area of study. A 12-month, 25 hours weekly preceptorship working with senior management in a healthcare organization that aligns with the student’s career goals. A team-based capstone which addresses an inter-professional issue in a health care organization.
