Extreme Weather Policy

Chicago winters often bring freezing temperatures and snow, but UIC remains open unless official notice is received per the UIC Extreme Weather and Emergency Conditions policy. Individual instructors may cancel their own classes, but they must notify their Division/Program leadership and promptly inform all students through email or Blackboard/Canvas. Any missed coursework must be made up later in the semester.

All classes campus-wide will only be canceled if the Chancellor or Provost determines weather conditions pose a serious safety risk. In such cases, notifications will be sent through Urgent email and text alerts, the UIC website, the UIC Information Line, and local media outlets.

Holiday Observances

At SPH, all students’ religious observances are respected and academically supported. UIC policy affirms that students are entitled to reasonable accommodations for these observances. Students should submit accommodation requests to their instructors in advance and make appropriate arrangements. Faculty and staff are encouraged to show understanding and flexibility, including adjusting deadlines or granting excused absences when needed. SPH students are also welcome to use the Serenity Room (SPH Room 142) and can be reserved through the standard study room reservation system or via the QR code on its door.
