  • BSTT 400 – Biostatistics I
  • BSTT 401 – Biostatistics II (4 semester hours)*
  • EPID 403 – Introduction to Epidemiology: Principles and Methods (4 semester hours)*
  • IPHS 520 – Public Health Frameworks for Researchers (3 semester hours)*
  • IPHS 599 – PhD Dissertation Research (minimum 32 semester hours)
  • EOHS 455 – Environmental and Occupational Toxicology (3 semester hours)
  • EOHS / HPA 565 – Datamining Applications in Public Health (3 semester hours)
  • Credit from previous master’s degree in public health or related area (32 semester hours)

* If not previously taken at the masters level.

Cancer Epidemiology Core (18 semester hours)

  • EPID 515 – Survey of Cancer Epidemiology (3 semester hours)
  • EPID 516 – Advanced Cancer Epidemiology (2 semester hours)
  • EPID 520 – Genetics in Epidemiology (2 semester hours)
  • EPID 550 – Special Topics: Surveillance Epidemiology (3 semester hours)
  • EPID 554 – Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology (2 semester hours)
  • EPID 594 – Special Topics: Social Epidemiology (3 semester hours)

Select one of the following courses:

  • CHSC 514 – Nutritional Epidemiology (3 semester hours)
  • HN 594 – Special Topics in Human Nutrition (3 semester hours)

With permission of the division, students may substitute HN 532 – Evaluation of Nutritional Status (3 semester hours) for HN 594 and submit a waiver request to apply the credit.

Electives (minimum 16 semester hours)

  • Students must take a minimum of 16 credits of electives.
  • Students must take at least one biological science class (4 semester hours) relevant to student’s research area is required if student has no prior biological sciences background.
