UIC MHA Mission, Vision, and Values
Mission Statement
The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program, including residential and executive tracks, is based in the School of Public Health (SPH). Aspiring healthcare professionals will become exemplary healthcare leaders through a rigorous program in healthcare management education that reflects the principles of public health. Recruitment of students demonstrating academic excellence, commitment to addressing the social determinants of health, improving health services delivery, and reflecting our communities' racial and cultural diversity will be the targeted population that facilitates the achievement of our mission.
Experiential learning is the guiding principle of our educational philosophy. Students will obtain foundational knowledge in healthcare management through a curriculum designed to provide students with the competencies required of leaders today and into the future. Incorporating theories into the curriculum based upon faculty research in population health, emerging healthcare delivery models, cost-effective healthcare practices, and quality improvement will ensure the curriculum remains current in a rapidly changing industry. How healthcare organizations apply these principles and concepts will be a focus of our practitioner-educator faculty. The twelve-month preceptorship will provide further practice experience to develop students' core management skills necessary for success in the profession.
This educational model prepares our residential track students for fellowships and entry-level management positions with high growth potential in health and hospital systems, medical group management, healthcare insurance, and consulting. The executive track's managers and clinical leaders further benefit from a multidisciplinary learning environment where shared experiences and perspectives launch professionals toward high-impact senior positions.
