COVID-19 Resources for People Who Uses Drugs and Substances

The UIC School of Public Health's Community Outreach Intervention Projects (COIP) has maintained staffing at three field site locations in Austin, Humboldt Park and West Englewood to provide harm reduction and naloxone supplies to clients.  Clients are provided with two to three weeks of supplies to encourage distancing.

COIP continues to provide clinical care to clients at the Austin site primary care clinic (staffed by the UIC Urban Global Health Program, UIC College of Nursing and Miles Square Health Center clinicians) and to HIV-positive clients at all three field its using clinic run by the UIC Community Care Network.  The clinics are seeing patients in order to provide extra supplies of medications and to provide suboxone induction to clients seeking drug treatment.  Staff are assisting the clinics by screening clients for COVID-19 who present at the office for treatment.  COIP is also advising clients to access harm reduction supplies at a sites served by the Chicago Recovery Alliance, a partnering harm reduction program.
