What are Lightning Talks?
Lightning Talks are rapid style presentations. Each student will have up to seven minutes to present up to 10 power point slides on their research or scholarship activity in the School of Public Health. In that time, students will share broadly about their research project and the significance of it. After the presentations, the audience will vote for the winner(s) of the Outstanding Lightning Talks Award.
When and where will the event take place?
Lightning Talks will be on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the UIC School of Public Health, Room 160. Presenters must attend in person. Audience members are encouraged to attend in person also, but there is a Zoom option available.
Who can present and attend Lightning Talks?
All UIC Public Health students (bachelor, master, and doctoral) are invited to present. All are welcome to attend the event – SPH students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as the larger UIC community, public health community, and community partners.
What should be the topic of a Lightning Talk?
Students can present on their research, projects, or other activities carried out in the School of Public Health including thesis/dissertation research, applied practice experience, analyses of public health policies/procedures, etc. Lightning talks must also address the 2024 Lightning Talks Theme: Significance of Research and Scholarship by answering the question: Why does your research matter research to you, your community, and/or your discipline?
