About

Amy joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2008 as a CDC Foundation Research Fellow working in the Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (DNPAO). Since then, Amy’s served in numerous policy and partnership positions across the Agency. Her primary expertise and passion focus on understanding how policy and organizational change can increase equitable access to healthier food options in the places where we live, work, learn, worship, and play.

Most recently, Amy’s completed rotations on CDC’s national COVID-19 response and served in a detail as the Acting Deputy Director for Policy, Partnerships, and Communications in DNPAO’s Office of the Director. In 2013, Amy joined CDC’s Office of the National Prevention Strategy and led technical assistance to 20 Federal Departments appointed to the National Prevention Council. Collectively, the Council worked to adopt Food Service Guidelines in all onsite food venues, improving healthier food offerings for thousands of government employees and visitors each year.

Amy now sits on DNPAO’s Healthier Food Environment team, where she provides technical assistance to states and communities working to improve the nutritional quality of food options in their own institutions (e.g., hospitals, worksites, parks), while also supporting economic opportunities for local farmers and environmentally friendly food-sector practices. In addition, Amy co-leads CDC's Nutrition and Obesity Policy Research and Evaluation Network and oversees CDC's monitoring of state-level childcare licensing regulations and inclusion of national obesity prevention standards.

Amy began her career at the Florida Legislature working in the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability. She conducted qualitative and quantitative analyses of health and human service programs and helped to lead a multi-year evaluation of the state’s Medicaid reform policy.

Education

Amy earned her MPA, with a specialization in Health Policy, from the University of Georgia, School of Public and International Affairs and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
