About
Marjorie Kersten, MPH is a PhD Candidate in the Community Health Sciences Division at UIC and a Research Assistant with the Collaboratory for Health Justice’s Reciprocal Technical Assistance initiative. Marjorie also works as a Consultant with Nutrition, Equity, and Justice Partners, LLC where she supports the implementation and evaluation of projects to promote breast/chest feeding equity; as a Project Coordinator with Chicago Grows Food where she provides program implementation and evaluation support to a collective working to help individuals grow their own food by providing free home gardening kits and support; and as a Research Assistant in the College of Nursing where she works on community-based participatory research projects to promote food security and food sovereignty in Chicago’s food system. Marjorie has worked in the non-profit and academic sectors addressing food insecurity as a social justice and health equity issue for over 6 years after completing her B.S. in Community & Environmental Sociology from the University of Wisconsin Madison. Marjorie is passionate about promoting social justice, food sovereignty, and maternal and child health in Chicago and around the world.
