About
Melody Geraci has worked in the not-for-profit sector for over 20 years and for Active Transportation Alliance since 2005. As Active Trans’ Deputy Executive Director, Melody serves as a top-level thought leader and strategic manager in pursuit Active Trans’ mission to advocate for walking, bicycling and public transit to create healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities in Chicagoland. She leads Active Trans’ public health-related work, including specialization in policy, systems, and environmental change initiatives.
Melody sits on UIC SPH’s advisory committee for the Policy, Practice and Prevention Research Center (P3RC) and has partnered with P3RC to co-develop the Organizing for Policy, Systems and Environmental Change webinar series. She has served as a guest speaker to public health, urban planning and sustainability graduate-level courses at DePaul, University of Chicago, Loyola and UIC. A focus of Melody’s talks is the intersection of racism and U.S. transportation systems and policy, both historically and contemporarily.
Melody is a UIC alumnus holding both a B.A. and M.A. in Communications. Melody is on the Speakers Bureau with expertise on topics including advocacy as well as transportation and built environment as social determinants of health.
