Lloyd DeGrane is a Chicago-based photojournalist/documentarian who specializes in location photography, environmental portraiture and long-term documentary projects. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Reader, Paris Match, The Guardian and other national and international publications. His black-and-white documentary work has been exhibited at the Chicago Cultural Center, the Chicago History Museum, and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC, among others.
DeGrane has documented the Illinois Prison System extensively with photos appearing in international publications and academic journals. His photo documentation of home life and television-watching in the Midwest resulted in the publication of Tuned In: Television in American Life, published by the University of Illinois Press.
Current documentary projects include Great Lakes water use and environmental impacts on fresh water for the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
His long-term documentary study of homelessness and the opioid epidemic in Chicago was funded by two fellowships from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. Segments of that project were published in an assortment of print media publications, were shown on WTTW television, were highlighted in interviews on WBEZ radio, and won a public service award from National Public Television.
