About
Carla earned her bachelors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Community Health with a concentration in Health Education and Promotion. Currently, she is a second-year master’s candidate at UIC SPH in Community Health Sciences with a concentration in Global Health. Carla is interested in health promotion, working with marginalized groups, and community-based participatory research. She hopes to be able to address the social determinants of health and empower individuals and communities in making decisions that will improve their health and well-being. She is passionate in promoting and coordinating program services amongst low-income communities and underserved communities. This summer, Carla will be working on a book project titled "Mothers Using Oral Histories to Mobilize from Loss to Healing in Little Village." She is extremely eager to be a part of such a meaningful project.
