Protecting Workers at a Chicago Ford Plant

Dr. Linda Forst, senior associate dean, was featured on CBS 2 Chicago News on the reopening of the Ford Chicago Assembly Plant at 126th Street and Torrence Avenue.  Workers are expressing concerns about the reopening after the factory initially shut down due to a COVID-19 outbreak.  Forst noted paid sick leave is an important tool to protect workers at any workplace.

I think the biggest barrier is paid sick leave. If they are not paid while they are staying at home, they aren’t going to stay at home…and I think that’s on the employers or the federal government to figure out how to deal with it.
