Mask Orders and the Science of Homemade Masks

A series of homemade cloth masks in a variety of colors.

Lisa Brosseau, PhD, retired professor of environmental and occupational health sciences, was interviewed by Talkzone.com Internet Talk Radio and featured on WBT Radio in Charlotte discussing local and state orders requiring the use of masks in public places.  Brosseau said there is little established science on the use of cloth masks and questioned the efficacy of mask usage by asymptomatic people with COVID-19.

It isn’t going to hurt anyone, but it’s not going to help a lot.  If people start depending on it and spending a lot of time together, I think we’re going to see the same amount of transmission going on when we weren’t closed.
