Illinois Data Challenges with COVID Reporting

Michael Cailas, PhD, associate professor of environmental and occupational health sciences and director of the Public Health Geographic Information Systems online certificate program, was interviewed by ABC 7 Chicago on recent COVID-19 data in Illinois.  Cailas noted lags in data reporting and lack of specificity may inhibit state residents from precautionary behavior.

If they know that next door them there are four or five positive cases and they might know these people personally, or by face, the whole narrative changes. People will be more willingly taking the preventative measures that are necessary.
