Abhilasha Shrestha, PhD '19, MPH '13, and a research assistant professor at SPH, was interviewed by CBS 2 News Chicago on her role in a Walder Foundation-funded project to collect and analyze sewage samples from around Chicagoland to identify outbreaks of the COVID-19 virus.

By analyzing the sewer water, you can find out when an outbreak is going to arrive. You have like a week’s notice before an outbreak. People who are infected with this virus, they start shedding the virus in their stool right away – even before they start showing symptoms.
