Abstract

The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program is a cooperative agreement under  which  Illinois Department of Public Health administers the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, which provides screening and diagnostic services to promote the early detection of breast and cervical cancer and to reduce mortality from these cancers. Arden Handler, DrPH, director of the Center for Excellence in Maternal and Child Health, is leading the evaluation of these monitoring activities for the systematic collection of information related to activities, characteristics and outcomes about the program to improve program effectiveness and inform decisions about future program development. The evaluation includes an analysis of screening promotion, service delivery and performance monitoring data to determine their effectiveness and to identify best practices.
