Wayne Wiebel

Wayne Wiebel has a PhD in Sociology from Northwestern University.

Title/position at UIC: Dr. Wiebel is a Professor Emeritus at the Univeristy of Illinois at Chicago. 

Courses Taught:  Dr. Wiebel currently teaches the undergraduate Public Health and Global Citizenship (PUBH 310) course.  Dr. Wiebel is also a guest lecturer for Outbreak Investigation for which he discusses his work in the chapter "Sex, Drugs & Community-based Ethnography: Field Investigations Involving Difficult to Reach Populations Around the World."

Areas of Interest Dr. Wiebel is interested in behavioral change interventions, rapid assessment and response, evaluation, combining epidemiology and ethnographic methods, and exploratory investigations.

Current and Recent Projects:  Dr. Wiebel directed the USAID Health Office in HCMC, Vietnam (2011-2013), and he coordinated the implementation of an AIDS Research Center and was a visiting Professor at Atma Jaya University in Jakarta Indonesia (2009-2010). Dr. Wiebel also developed sampling strategies for epidemiologic studies of high-risk populations in Vietnam (2006-2008) and directed implementation of USAID sponsored AIDS prevention programs targeting drug risk in SE Asia.

Other: In 2013, Dr. Wiebel received a Medal Of Honor from the HCMC Vietnam Peoples Committee for his contributions to the health and well-being of its citizens.
