About

Stephanie Ruizesparza is the Administrative Assistant for the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Maternal and Child Health (MCH).  In this position, Stephanie helps manage the administration of the CoE-MCH through program social media, evaluation efforts, and scheduling. Stephanie is a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she obtained her bachelors in Global Studies and Latina/os Studies. Stephanie received a high distinction in her Latina/os Studies major where she wrote her thesis on Latina Sex Trafficking in Chicago. She is also 2015 Gates Millennium Scholar.

Stephanie is dedicated to learning about social justice issues, particularly focusing on marginalized groups in the United States. She has volunteered at Crisis Nursery and acted as a Spanish translator for the YMCA’s La Linea in order to increase women’s and children’s access to particular services without facing as many barriers. Stephanie has also volunteered with Public Defenders under the Child Services Division. With her dedication to her community and the admiration for young people, she has also facilitated two summer programs with youth, UIUC’s Illinois Scholar Program and Youth Justice grassroots program in Pilsen. Her focus is not only domestic issues. Stephanie enjoys learning about global issues and has studied abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea to take courses in International Relations.
