About

Kristen Belcher is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Illinois-School of Public Health within the Department of Community Health Sciences and the Maternal and Child Health Program. Her doctoral research is focused on examining social media's role in the perpetration of sexual harassment by adolescents and the resources and supports needed for youth to disclose harassment online. She is interested in investigating how students' perceptions of harassment on social media platforms influence the way they respond to or navigate sexual harassment that occurs on these platforms. Currently, Belcher works as a graduate research assistant at UIC, helping to evaluate the Promoting Adolescent Health Through School-Based HIV Prevention Initiative implemented in Chicago Public Schools. She also holds extensive experience related to developing interactive web tools and resources for public health practitioners, which was cultivated during her time as a fellow at the CDC. Prior to being at CDC, Belcher received her MPH from Tulane University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
