Remembering Ashley Marie McClure-Wolfson
Memoriam
Ashley Marie McClure-Wolfson, a dedicated online HPA-MPH student, passed away unexpectedly in November 2023. A respected pharmacist and lifelong learner, Ashley exemplified a commitment to health equity and compassionate patient care throughout her career.
“Ash brought a dedication and passion for health equity, particularly for the LGBTQ+ community and other communities who are less connected to healthcare resources,” remembered Elizabeth Jarpe-Ratner, a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health’s Division of Health Policy Administration. “That passion will always stay with me, and I am sure will stay with Ash’s classmates for many years to come.”
After earning her Doctor of Pharmacy at Creighton University, Ashley went on to complete the Walgreens–UIC PGY1 Community Practice Residency in Chicago–a program that shaped her deep involvement in community-based care. Over eleven years with Walgreens Pharmacy, Ashley served in various roles, perhaps most impactfully at embedded specialty pharmacies within Chicago’s Howard Brown Health Center. There, she became a trusted provider to diverse and underserved communities, drawing on her board certifications in ambulatory care and HIV pharmacotherapy to guide patients through complex treatment plans, which is what inspired her to seek out and complete her AAHIVP certification.
Most recently, Ashley worked for the Office of Clinical Integrity, where she brought her keen attention to detail and tireless advocacy to ensure high standards in healthcare delivery. Her efforts were grounded in a profound belief in access, dignity, and respect for every patient.
Ashley’s academic journey in the MPH program was a continuation of her passion for public health and systemic change. Her thoughtful engagement and unwavering focus on equity left a strong impression on faculty and peers alike.
“I had the pleasure of having Ash in my Intro to Research Methods course in the fall of 2023. Ash was warm, kind, and sensitive when giving feedback to peers, and she went above and beyond in approaching all assignments with deep thoughtfulness, critical thinking, as well as detail and clarity,” shared Jarpe-Ratner.
SPH remembers Ashley not only for her professional excellence but also for the profound impact she had on her patients, colleagues, and classmates. Her passing is a tremendous loss to the public health and pharmacy communities. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and service that continues to inspire.
