Building Cleaning during COVID-19

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 developments, The School of Public Health is following preventative cleaning measures to preserve healthy environments and help slow the spread of viruses. Under the guidance of UIC administration, Building Services is implementing routine environmental sanitization procedures.

Listed below are some of the preventative measures that building services plan to execute:

  1. Daily sanitation of all conference rooms, classrooms, computer labs and lecture halls.
  2. Installation of more hand sanitizer dispensers in needed areas.
  3. Frequent sanitation and wiping down of surfaces based on different touchpoints.

Cleaning will include:

  • Classrooms/ Computer Labs/Conference Rooms/ Offices
  • Desks.  Note that building Services can only clean cleared desk surfaces. We strongly encourage occupants to keep clear desk surfaces.
  • Table Tops
  • Light switches
  • Door handles/knobs

UIC Building Services is cognizant of possible chemical sensitivities; therefore, they are receiving cleaning chemical dilution training to develop effective but properly concentrated decontamination solutions. In order keep up with the work volume and consistently maintain healthy environments, the campus is deploying additional cleaning staff to SPHPI. Upon the launch of virtual classes, building services plans to carry out intensive classroom/conference room decontamination protocols.
