MPH, Health Policy and Administration
What do you love about living and learning in Chicago?
So many things to see, so many things to do, so many people to meet… so little time!
Have you had any leadership experiences during your time at UIC SPH?
UIC SPH really gives students opportunities to be leaders. As the current president of the Minority Students for the Advancement of Public Health (MSAPH), I have learned not only how to efficiently manage my time but how to work with those with various skill sets and passions for public health. I have enjoyed participating in events that give back to the community.
Have you completed a field practicum or preceptorship?
This summer I had the wonderful opportunity to observe and participate in the strategic planning and national accreditation processes for the Cook County Department of Public Health.
Have you participated in any research projects at UIC SPH?
Since arriving at here UIC, I have been working at the Institute for Health Research and Policy. My major projects are the Chicago Tobacco Prevention Project and C3, a research consortium of UIC, Northwestern, and University of Chicago. I participate in the evaluation of smoke-free policies and cessation programs in local community organizations and psychiatric facilities. I have also been working on a curriculum development project for community based participatory research trainings and seminars in hopes of developing a summer institute that will promote collaboration between academic institutions and community organizations.
