Why did you choose to attend UIC SPH?
UIC SPH is so culturally diverse. This made me choose SPH as it creates a socially comfortable academic environment.
What do you love about living and learning in Chicago?
Chicago is a beautiful city, rich in culture and architecture. However, there are public health issues unique to the city and that makes it interesting - creating a memorable experience through learning about these concerns.
Have you had any leadership experiences during your time at UIC SPH?
I served as the UIC Section Vice President of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) as well as the Communications Chair of Minority Students for the Advancement in Public Health (MSAPH). Being a leader in these student organizations gave me the opportunity to interact with other public health professionals. By representing my organizations, I have had opportunities to attend key conferences, enhancing my networking and communication skills. These positions also gave me an avenue to learn the importance of teamwork.
Have you completed a field practicum or preceptorship?
My field practicum was at U.S Department of Labor-Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). I worked closely with compliance safety and health officers in facility inspections and evaluation of safety and health hazards in the workplace.
