The Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program at the UIC School of Public Health is now accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education, (CAHME).  CAHME accreditation is an important benchmark for students and employers alike that ensures the integrity of healthcare management education. This exciting commendation now makes the UIC MHA Program accredited by both CAHME and the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

“This is a major accomplishment for our program and signals to the community the quality of our MHA program," says John DeNardo, Director of the MHA program.

Benn Greenspan, Clinical Associate Professor in the division of Health Policy and Administration, developed the UIC Master of Healthcare Administration Program in 2005.  “We wanted to provide students with the opportunity to develop the skills and resources needed to become a healthcare leader,” says Greenspan, who served as the Director of the MHA program until 2012.

The MHA Program is designed to meet the needs of various populations looking to work in the healthcare field.  Managers, administrators and supervisors already working in healthcare or related fields who want to advance their skills to become executives and leaders are the majority of students who enroll in the program.  Healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, therapists, technicians, other caregivers and researchers) who seek advancement into organizational leadership also make up a significant number of the students attracted to this program.

“Healthcare is already the largest non-government sector of the U.S. economy. As our population ages and as new medical breakthroughs extend life, the demand for healthcare services will continue to grow,” says Paul Brandt-Rauf, UIC SPH’s Dean. The rate of job growth in this sector is currently twice that of other industries, making the demand for capable professionals to lead this expansion substantial. Tomorrow's leaders will be creative professionals with the analytical and "people" skills required not only to manage successful projects but also to lead successful institutions.

Students entering CAHME accredited programs are assured of appropriate content, high standards of quality, and membership in a network of professional colleagues that transcends boundaries of universities and professional associations and colleges. With a strong partnership between academe and the field of practice, CAHME serves universities and programs in a voluntary peer review process designed to continuously improve academic education. CAHME accreditation establishes the standard of measurement for the world community.
