The Health Professions Navigator Scholars Program (HPN Scholars)

The Health Professions Navigator Scholars Program (HPN Scholars) is a professional development program for undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). The goal of HPN Scholars is to increase the number of individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who are pursuing health professions careers by offering mentoring and educational programming. Through interactions with students, faculty, staff, and practitioners, program participants will be exposed to issues related to health disparities as well as learn about the various pathways into the health sciences and health professions. The HPN Scholars program will help participants successfully navigate their undergraduate degree program and the admissions process for professional or graduate schools.

ELIGIBILITY

  • UIC undergraduate  students interested in pursuing careers in a health science profession
  • Applicants must self-identify as coming from an economically and educationally disadvantaged background
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

 

PROGRAM DATES AND DEADLINES

Application deadline EXTENDED: September 17, 2017

Notification of admission starting: Late August, 2017  

Start of program: September 27, 2017

End of program: April 25, 2018

The Program will meet twice a month on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm-7:30pm
