About Sunny

Sunny is a first year UIC School of Public Health student pursuing a Masters of Public Health in Community Health Sciences. Her initial interest in food deserts has led her to advocating and seeking solutions toward a more equitable food community. She hopes to use her data analytical skills to strengthen community programs and bridge the gap between research and the community. She envisions that one day we can efficiently use data and strengthen collaborative efforts to create a healthier and equitable community. Besides being a busy grad student, she often likes to explore Chicago through food adventures, farmers markets, and urban gardens/farms.

Why did you participate in Leadership Program?

I participated in the leadership program to continue to develop my personal leadership style and meet other public health students also interested in growing as a leader.

What skills were gained from your participation in the program?

I participated in the leadership program to continue to develop my personal leadership style and meet other public health students also interested in growing as a leader.

What will you do with your new responsibility as student ambassador?

I learned about my own leadership style, how to leverage social media and technology for the professional world, begin to think about my 30 second elevator speech and most importantly, learn from the stories and experiences from public health leaders, Dr. Reginald Cantave and Teena Francois-Blue.
