Kaijah is in her first year at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. She is encouraged daily to connect health to the shared, lived experience. Kaijah is invested in finding opportunities and lessons to demonstrate that health matters and envelops many components of daily life, impacted historically, institutionally, geographically, and holistically. As a collaborative learner with qualitative research and peer facilitation experience, Kaijah seeks out opportunities to serve communities and learn how to increase the number of people invested in proactively searching for resources to guide and manage their wellness.
Why did you participate in Leadership Program?
I am always interested in the opportunity to build myself as a leader, individual, learner, and human. When the academic and career-specific leadership program was suggested to me, I could not wait to become involved!
What skills were gained from your participation in the program?
I learned more about how the interpretation of 'leadership' lends itself to the work one commits to, along with virtual networking and mentoring skills that I do not think enough people talk about.
What will you do with your new responsibility as student ambassador?
Becoming a Student Ambassador for the ODI means that SPH students will be given the chance to develop themselves so that they can build up those around them.
