Dr. Marie Sonia Simone Jean
Dr. Jean is the Chief Executive Officer of the Action Communautaire de Développement pour la Réduction de la Pauvreté (ACDRP; Community Development Action for Poverty Reduction), which is a local nongovernmental organization that often partners with the Ministry of Health in Haiti. She received her Medical Doctorate (MD) from the Faculté de Médecine et de Pharmacie of Haiti. She did her residency in pediatrics at the State University Hospital and was an attending physician and research associate with Cornell – GHESKIO program at the Institut National de Laboratoire et de Recherche. She also studied epidemiology and biostatistics in the field of Public Health at the University of Michigan. Dr. Jean worked as an HIV/AIDS Specialist at UNICEF and was elected as the Treasurer of the UNICEF Staff Association. In collaboration with USAID (Haiti), CDC (Haiti), CDC / GAP Atlanta with the support of the Ministry of Health, she served as the Implementer of the national program “Early Diagnosis of HIV in Exposed Infants.” Dr. Jean also served as Haiti’s Country Coordinator in implementing HIV vaccine trials and as part of her contribution to the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN), she received the “Network Citizenship Award.” She also served as the Health Department Director at Mission du Sud des Adventistes d'Haïti.
