PQP Public Health Masters Scholarship

FOR MASTER’S STUDENTS

Deadline: February 24, 2017

PURPOSE

The Paul Q. Peterson Public Health Scholarship is provided to encourage and support outstanding students who are interested in the practical application of public health delivery and/or research.  This encompasses access to or management of health care delivery systems, international or community application of public health practice, advocacy for socially or economically disadvantaged populations, epidemiological or environmental investigation, or biostatistical analysis.  This scholarship was made possible by an endowment established by the Alumni Association of the School of Public Health (SPH) to honor Dr. Paul Q. Peterson, the first Dean and founding father of the UIC-SPH. It is awarded in special recognition of his efforts to improve the health of the community.

ELIGIBILITY

SPH students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the scholarship:

  • Admitted into an SPH degree program
  • Completed at least one semester and a minimum of 12 hours toward an MPH or MS.
  • Maintained a cumulative GPA at SPH of 3.0 or higher
  • Expected graduation date is December 2017 or later
  • Has not previously received a PQP Scholarship.

 

APPLICATION

Submit the following materials online at 'PQP Masters Form':

  1. Completed Application Form by clicking the following link: PQP Masters Form
  2. A concise (500 word) essay addressing your background and interest in the practical application of public health and vision for your future in public health leadership.
  3. Resume or CV with education and professional experience, publications, awards, and honors.
  4. One completed Letter of Recommendation Form from an SPH faculty member who has first-hand knowledge of the applicant. Click the following link to submit the PQP Masters Letter of Recommendation Form.

 

APPLICATION DEADLINE

The application and all supporting documents for the scholarship must be submitted online by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017.  Late submissions will not be accepted.

EVALUATION AND AWARD

Applications will be reviewed by members of the Alumni Association Awards Committee.  The Committee will select finalists who will be invited for a brief interview with the committee in February/March 2017. The recipient will be notified in advance of the PQP Awards Ceremony that will be held at the Annual SPH Research and Awards Day April 7, 2017.
