Online Degrees Overview

Online education appeals to a distinct audience of students—those who seek higher education opportunities, but are bound by time and place. UIC SPH has been a pioneering force among CEPH-accredited schools, offering distanced based education for over fourteen years. Our courses facilitate extensive instructor and peer interaction, ensuring that while you may be studying at home or in your work-place, you will not be alone. Online MPH

The School of Public Health offers three fully online Master of Public Health (MPH) degree programs, with concentrations in Community Health Sciences and Health Policy and Administration. We also offer the only fully online MPH in Public Health Informatics (PHI) awarded by a CEPH-accredited school of public health.

Each program is offered in a primarily asynchrounous format, which allows students to learn anytime, anywhere. Students are expected to keep pace with assignments, discussion, and exams as posted in the online course syllabus. Through web-based discussion on Blackboard, UIC’s online course management system, students should plan to log into the class at least four times per week. On average online students should expect to spend between 8 and 10 hours per week on course-related activities. The distance-based master's programs are all delivered entirely online. Campus visits are not required.

Online DrPH

The online Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Leadership program is designed for mid-career public health professionals who want to expand their knowledge and practice in the field. This program is offered in a mix of synchronous and asynchronous classes, allowing students to engage with their peers across the country and internationally. Through web-based discussion technologies including Google Docs and Blackboard, students can participate in asynchronous discussions; conferencing software allows many of the small seminars to take place in real-time. In addition, all DrPH students are expected to attend a 3 to 5 day Summer Institute once per year, which is held on the UIC Campus. The Summer Institute provides the opportunity for students to meet one-on-one with their advisors and peers in an intensive learning and social environment.
