SPH Strategic Planning

SPH Dean On behalf of the UIC School of Public Health (UIC SPH), I'd like to welcome you to the homepage of the SPH Strategic Directions Initiative, our School-wide continuous strategic planning process.

The Strategic Directions Initiative is a process designed to be inclusive and participatory. The resulting strategic plan will represent, as much as possible, a collective effort of UIC SPH students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community and public health partners.

The UIC SPH Executive Committee will provide oversight of the process, while the Strategic Directions Committee has been charged with developing and coordinating the process.

The following draft Vision Statement has been vetted with the SPH Community and approved by our Executive Committee:

"A leader among academic institutions improving public health through engaged partnerships in teaching & learning, research, service and practice"

We have convened Strategic Think Groups to develop community goals and measurable objectives in the strategic directions of research, teaching & learning, service practice & partnerships, and organizational design that are consistent with this Vision and our Mission, which is as follows:

“The UIC School of Public Health is dedicated to excellence in protecting and improving the health and well-being of the people of the metropolitan Chicago area, the State of Illinois, and the nation, and of others throughout the world. The School achieves this mission by:

educating scientists, professionals and the public;
conducting research to develop solutions to public health problems; providing public health service;
and formulating public health policy.”

Our last strategic plan was conducted during the 2004-2005 academic year. As we continue to grow and adapt in the face of ever-evolving internal and external landscapes, implementing and evaluating a continuous strategic plan of action is paramount to effectively navigating the terrain. Throughout this process, I ask that you stay engaged and keep the forward momentum going in the SPH community as we shape the future of UIC SPH. Thank you for your support.
